One of the joys of radio broadcasting is receiving calls on the air. We never know what the questions would be. Since we air live on the Internet, nothing is rehearsed. On Tuesdays at 6 PM Eastern time, I host the Holistic Life Designs Talk Radio on TalkShoe with focused weekly topics on holistic and spiritual matters. On the Second Tuesday of each month, I feature Angel Communication with my friend and fellow Angel Therapy Practitioner, Russell Forsyth of Austin, Texas. We conduct free Angel Readings and our callers love how Russell and I tag team to relay messages from the angels.
When it comes to the nature of the questions, we are generally asked about health, career and relationship. In between callers, Russell and I cover concepts to remember when working with connecting and healing with the angels. One particular caller struck me to speak on self-empowerment. The critical question to ask in order to claim our power back is ‘Who defines us?’
The question was asked if we see the caller moving residence. Apparently, this question was not an original one and had already received several answers from other intuitives which pointed to the notion that a move was imminent. Yet, months have passed and still there was no move in sight. So, the caller ask us this question. “When do the angels see me moving?”
The first thought that came to me was ‘The move will happen when you decide to move!’ Working with angels means just that, working with them. Angels help us make our dreams come true, find our path, meet the people important for our growth, and send us places where we could make a difference. They help us heal ourselves, find our reason for living, and remember how loved we are. They help us realize we have choices, that we are powerful to create the lives of our dreams, and we have the Universe to help us. They teach us gratitude for the blessings that come into our lives.
One thing angels will not do is make decisions for us. They believe that we are powerful to impact our own lives. They know we create the lives we choose to live, either we do so consciously or not. They also wait for us to ask them for help as they acknowledge our free will. They know our life scripts and our histories, the lifetimes we have lived across time and space. They love us unconditionally and allow us to go on the journeys we set out to take. They teach us that all is in Divine Order. The only time they will interfere is when we engage in any act that would cut our life short before our designated time. They stay with us always, giving us sacred signs to stay on our path. If the choice we make is for our highest and greatest good, we feel joyful and powerful. If it is not, we feel awful and parts of ourselves feel ill. Our bodies give us feedback on the quality of our decisions and their potential impact in our lives.
So, when we find ourselves not moving, either through life, career, residence, or in relationships, it is because we have not made the conscious decision to do so. Some of us wait for others to make the decisions for us. Often we wait to be released from our work, our homes, our relationships. Even though the latter way is not self-empowering, the desired effect of moving will then take place.
Let us revisit the question, ‘Who defines us?’. The answer that comes to mind is ‘Who walks in our shoes?’ Decisions that impact us need to be made by the ones who will experience the consequences of those decisions. Asking strangers about this critical component of our lessons will not teach us what we are meant to learn.
Once we have made the decision, in this case to move residence, then we create movements in our world to support that choice. We conjure desired future residence in our minds. We begin de-cluttering our current space. We start packing our belongings. We move towards closures with celebration. These show the Universe we are serious and committed to our desire to move. All the while we ask for help from the angels to find us our dream home, bring us the resources and energy to make the move happen effortlessly, and help us focus our efforts to manage our transition with grace and ease.
Then, we watch and pay attention how the Universe aligns itself to help us manifest our dream into reality.

Clearing Unfinished Business Begins The Path To A New World March 26, 2009

Lately I encounter interesting stories about life, and I still have yet to step outside my house to learn these lessons. Advancing technologies in the modern world are ubiquitous, as common as you see people going in every direction that pulls them. In the home they are everywhere as well, including our means to communicate with family, friends and associates. In my holistic practice at Holistic Life Designs coupled with my travel business at World Tours and Cruises, I rely much on my online activities to engage my work along with online radio broadcasting and writing. So I meet people of all walks of life from around the world. It is rather an interesting venture compared to the much more secured living of my past life serving with the US Armed Forces.
I favor working collaboratively on a global scale. I love hearing others’ perspectives on similar issues as their comments and questions sharpen my thoughts about the matter. One of the things we do in our collaboration is to support each other’s goals, offer insights, be a sounding board for ideas, and generate concepts that fit our individual objectives. Other times we work on developing our relationship by sharing our own histories with one another, allowing for our dreams to be a part of our conversations as we weave in and out of our work tapestry.
The theme of new beginnings for our collaborations is engaging a world very new to us, that of social media and internet marketing. As we journeyed through this path of new knowledge, we began to notice missing links in our connections with one another even though we were enthused and creative with our ventures. Intuitively speaking, before we can tread on new paths, we must honor and celebrate our past so that we build momentum towards the future from the goodwill of those we leave behind. Otherwise, any unfinished business pulls us back to unpleasant memories and tasks waiting closures. This becomes a burden in our journey forward, slowing us down tremendously as the weight gets heavier with each step we take.
Through our sharing and building our emotional relationships, we realize many of us have unfinished businesses to close. These are embodied as estranged career uncertainties, relationship dilemmas, unhealthy family ties, financial upheavals, unchecked health issues, lack of support from all levels, thwarted creative endeavors, discounting tempered wisdom, and fears of success or failures. It takes tremendous energy and focus to begin new projects. Ideally, energy tied to suppress any unfinished business could be freed and redirected to fuel our new endeavors. So, what do we do now? We speak honestly with one another about our insights, then help each other overcome these challenges that burden us. Afterward, we allow for time and space to heal any wounds from releasing anything that held us back. When we clear unfinished businesses of our past, our load is lightened and our energies restored. Then, our journeys to new beginnings resume in stride as the path to the future clears.

Is Finding the Right One a Myth? Does True Love really exist? December 27, 2008

I went through a novel journey to self-discovery these past few months. Ironically at first, I thought I was experiencing something magical at the time. I thought the Universe finally heard me wondering “When is my Beloved coming into my life?” and had sent me an answer. Well, it turned out that my wondering manifested my dark shadows disguised as my Beloved.
My soap opera began when I encouraged myself to take a break from taking inner journeys to my soul, which I have done steadily for over three years now, and venture to the wonderland of make-believe. This wonderland is all about the nature of true love. Oh, yes! True Love.
I know several people who speak of living long and loving lives with their true love, and continue to live with the spirit of true love even though their spouses have long passed away. A few couples I know are living witnesses of how one could find true love when we meet the Right One. Yet, I also know there are those who wonder if true love truly exists.
In my search for spiritual truths, I learned possible ways to manifest my Beloved’s presence in my current life, ranging from settling past life issues and karmic ties to engaging the laws of attraction, manifestation and detachment. I learned how angels, spirit guides and our deceased loved ones could help us in meeting our Beloved. I learned that engaging in inner work to allow my Light to shine forth will attract my Beloved. I also learned that by working on becoming the Beloved I want for myself will also attract my Beloved to me. Intuitives tell me time and time again, they see a Great Love coming into my life. Then, I wonder how do they know this and I do not?
I thought I have done all I could to learn how to attract my Beloved, my Soulmate. So, I ask the Universe, “When will my Beloved finally come into my life?” After a few mantras along the same line, he showed up. Really, he did!
Well, it turned out that what I wished for did come true, at least in my imagination. What the Universe gave me was another life lesson embodied through one person, posing as my Beloved. I could have known the joke was on me just so I could openly engage my own dark shadows.
What shadows am I talking about? Well, they were my own antiquated views of relationships, my unfinished businesses of the past, my unresolved issues within me. I suppose the Universe wanted me to realize whether or not I truly learned my lessons in self-love, being of integrity with my Higher Self, and accepting both my light and my shadows.
As difficult and challenging as these lessons had been, they were enlightening and humbling experiences laced with highly charged emotional drama. Yes, no lessons are memorable without the drama! When the roller coaster rides and the dizzying swirling finally stopped, I found my bearing as I flopped unto the ground. A little dazed and confused, I dusted myself off and forced myself to get up. Then I found myself alone once more.
What was that twirling all about? All this time, I thought my Beloved would be someone to come into my life, my twin flame. In my readings to gain spiritual understanding, I learned how Twin Flames are truly the integration of the masculine and feminine energies within a person, the fusion of a person’s divinity and humanity, the merging of both the person’s light and shadows, the person’s Being as One with Spirit.
At the end of the day, when all is said and done, reality sets in. The idea of Twin Flames is easy to say but not so easy to do. It had not been all that simple to think my Beloved had been with me all along, right in my heart. Who comes up with these ideas?
So, what did I learn from my Higher Self? Before the Right One for me could come into my life, I first must learn to complete, accept and love me for who I am inside and out. Our relationships with others are truly remarkable in how they mirror our relationships with ourselves.
Well, I believe I have intellectualized it fully enough to write a dissertation on the topic. However, the human in me still wants to know in practical terms, “When is my Beloved coming into my life?”

I had this very strong sense to call one of my friends the other day, and within seconds of speaking with her, I realized the reason. She had been suffering multiple aches and pains she had not had in a very long time. The first ache she mentioned was the sharp pain in her ears she apparently had been nursing for hours. The second was the throbbing pain in her eyes. As soon as she said this, I felt similar pain in my eyes and ears and the inner knowing that she was not willing to listen to anyone.
So, I relayed my immediate sense to her including the pain in my eyes and ears. She began to tell me how much she is disliking all the gossip that had been going on in her workspace and she was disliking it tremendously. She did not want to have anything to do with her co-workers as she felt she did not want any of their negativity to come to her. As soon as she said this with the vehement force and apparent passionate dislike for her co-workers, I realized that the pain she had been experiencing both in her eyes as well as in her ears, were the thoughts she had been feeling about how her co-workers live through their days. To her, they were spending their time negatively with gossip and betrayal, and she had not wanted any part of it.
What she did not realize then was the notion that what she noticed in her surroundings became magnified in her life. The more she stayed away from her co-workers, assigning judgment on how her co-workers spent their time at work, and extending her energy passionately to her disliking their activities, the more powerful were the energies she was sending herself as well. Since these energies were not rooted in love, what she felt was dissonance felt by her true loving self, and the resulting pain in her eyes and ears.
I became my friend’s mirror and I showed her how her body had been reacting to her not so loving thoughts. The body speaks only the truth and when it is subjected to anything other than the truth, it aches and becomes ill. We both came to realize that living the spiritual path continually presents us challenges to confront the truth within us. My friend’s pains were reminders to both of us that loving thoughts heal, and the greater the conflict, the more love is warranted. Rather than resisting her co-workers’ energy engaged in gossip and malicious thoughts, she agreed that she could choose to go right into their center instead and send out the greatest loving energy she could muster at the time.
Since love comes from Spirit, we have it in abundance. The more she sends love out into the world, the more love comes back to her. This act of kindness becomes healing for us all.

Do The Energy Vortexes Of Sedona, Arizona Truly Exist? October 9, 2008

For some time now I have been receiving encouragement from colleagues in my holistic, metaphysical, and spiritual circles to visit Sedona, Arizona and experience for myself the energy of the vortexes for which it is known worldwide. When I became a Soul Coach, who work with Soul Journeys and Vision Quests as part of our healing modality, I felt intrigued by the possibility that there are places in the world known as energy vortexes designated to align with our particular chakras, the major energy centers of our bodies. It is also widely believed by those who subscribe to the idea of energy vortexes and chakras that the energy vortexes in Sedona are linked to all the major chakras of the body.
Needless to say, the researcher in me became more intrigued by the idea that I did not need to travel the world to experience the effects of energy vortexes affecting every part of my body’s major energy centers. Sedona is located right here in the United States and I stumbled upon the opportunity to experience its world renowned energy vortexes for myself.
My own quest was to find out if energy vortexes do really exist in Sedona, Arizona? The second quest was to experience what is it like to enter an energy vortex? At first, I am not so sure how to understand energy vortexes so I did research on it. What I found was a number of unsubstantiated articles on the topic, hardly scientific but highly faith-based and metaphysical in nature. In my quest for spiritual truths, I am discerning and experience-oriented. My research engages my critical thinking skills and my intuitive abilities. So, when I read up on energy vortexes, engaged self-established subject matter experts, and applied my own thinking and intuition on the topic, I found the whole body of literature on energy vortexes to be inconclusive. So, there I found myself last week in Sedona, exploring energy vortexes to pacify my curiosity.
At first glance, I found Sedona comforting and easy to the senses. The entire valley was surrounded with beautiful and unique red rock formations. It is a small community filled with visitors who are truth seekers as well as those who found comfort in their homes among the mesas. It is a place where anything metaphysical can be found in the open. I discovered it to be a haven of creative artists whose beautiful and inspiring works of art can be found throughout the shops in Uptown Sedona and at the Tlaquepaque Market. My shamanic healer friend, Sandra Cosentino of Crossing Worlds, gave us a guided tour of the vortex sites coupled with a brief history and biology lesson on the rock formations as well as cultural history of Navajo and Hopi Indians who reside 150 miles from the center of Sedona. At the end of the day, I realized that a space is only a space until it is given deeper meaning by generations, tying the history of the community to ancestral past. A community exists when residents share common beliefs and lifestyles. To see how well received metaphysical practitioners were in the area spoke volumes on how accepting the people were of esoteric arts and diverse healing modalities. It is a culture striving to be spiritual in nature, celebrating differences in supportive and loving ways.
As for the energy vortex sites known for making people experience various physical reactions and ailments upon setting foot in Sedona, they definitely were felt in the experiences of the beholder. One thing I noticed was that the atmospheric conditions were different due to higher elevations, and if people were not used to the drastic change, their bodies could be reacting accordingly especially if they were simultaneously experiencing jet lag or if they have never been to higher elevations in a long while, or not at all.
Perhaps the ecstasy felt in finally being able to experience the sights and sounds of Sedona might also have been a contributing factor to these heightened physical senses. Whatever was the case, I truly appreciated the quaintness and openness of Sedona and its people. I would like to return to explore the mesas further, so I am now planning to take a group with me in 2009 who wish to go on Soul Journeys and Vision Quests among the Red Rocks.

Should Psychics And Healers Be Paid For Their Gifts? October 7, 2008

I came across an intense conversation on whether or not psychics and healers should be paid for their gifts. A few maintained the position that “If spiritual gifts are gifts from God, why should anyone pay to benefit from them?” Another group maintained their equally plausible position that “if others are paid for their natural gifts and abilities, why not psychics and healers?”
The first thoughts I had, and they were streaming within the first 10 seconds, were: paying for something implies a perceived value for what was paid for by any means of energy exchange, either with money or work exchange or as a favor. Everyone has spiritual gifts, meaning gifts from Spirit and of the Spirit, so everyone has some form of natural talents and abilities, which pave the way for skills acquired through training and education supported by experience. I am not just speaking about experience gained from formal means like work and school. I also mean experience gained from living in various family structures and cultures, from one’s neighborhood street to Wall Street, from knowing one’s community inside out to traveling the world on a shoe-string budget.
So, when we speak of spiritual gifts coming from God, where would the other natural gifts come from as well unless they also come from God. If we are willing to pay for health care from our providers who we believe to have the gift of healing and counseling, or be willing to pay for education and training from teachers who we also believe have the gift of imparting information and knowledge, then why would psychics and healers be treated differently if we believe they have the gift of insight and energy healing?
There is a matter of discernment that one must exercise when working with any service provider. We must discern if the service they claim to provide is backed by knowledge and experience, referrals from trusted sources, and integrity and esteemed quality of care. Do we feel more confident to be medically diagnosed by someone who has the natural gift of healing as well as the education and experience approved by their own peers from an organization with long-standing reputation for integrity and high quality of care? This confidence comes with a price we are willing to pay. What would we be inclined to pay for the service of a student of the medical profession who clearly have the gift of healing but still lacking the credentials we are accustomed to seeing before we cough up a dime? Many of us would not even think of approaching a medical student unless we are assured he or she is supervised by someone whom we deem has achieved professional status.
So, when it comes to psychics and healers, why would we treat this any differently than how we discern other service providers? We do pay for our perceived value of the services they provide. Many of us have spiritual gifts, some of us have tapped and developed them, some of us are still in gestation and quite unconscious of our gifts’ existence. It takes time and money, effort and tenacity to develop spiritual gifts to the point that they become useful to others. Then there is the time and energy expended in providing the actual reading and healing, depending on the level of energy requirement for spirit communication, energy healing, and spiritual counseling. But before these psychics and healers feel compelled to go public with their gifts, as many of them are closeted, they have much inner work to engage and fears to overcome before they could feel confident to step outside their comfort zone. To some, this process can take years of painstaking self-analysis and spiritual studies, depending on whether or not their social network support their off the beaten path ways. This level of self-awareness with highly developed spiritual gifts that help mankind at large through insightful analysis and energy healing is what warrants the price tag for their service.
Of course, there are many sides to a story. Another side to this story is a warning. Be aware of people who claim to be psychics and healers but speak of doom and gloom and claim they can remove these bad spells on you for a price. They feed on fear and they have learned to spot those who are not discerning. Many of them use the buzz words such as being mediums, psychics, healers, spiritual, metaphysicians, astrologers, spiritual coaches, channeler, angel readers, etc. This reminds me of the phrase, beware of the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Watch what they do and say, and how they make you feel. If at any time you feel uncomfortable and unpleasant, excuse yourself and calmly let go of the interaction.
Psychics and healers worth their salt walk the talk and talk the walk. You feel uplifted and calm when you are tapped into their energy fields, either through the phone, online or in person. They offer you hopeful and helpful ways to overcome your challenges. They speak positively and without judgment. They speak the truth in loving ways, and they are full of compassion. They are balanced and centered, and they lead calm and creative lives. They see beauty in everyone and they are filled with light. They keep you in their prayers and they have a tremendous disarming way of making you feel safe, accepted and loved. They have done their inner work, through forgiveness and love, and they have come to accept their life purpose and are working it. Their mission is to achieve enlightenment and they seek to teach others to do the same. What then is their service worth to you?

Political Debate: Positions And Promises Made During Mercury Retrograde, How Well Will They Stand Up September 27, 2008

Those of us who experienced computer glitches, unusual travel delays, and misunderstandings on September 24, 2008, rode the heaviest intensity of the onset of Mercury Retrograde in September. This Libra Mercury Retrograde period started 0:17 am PDT September 24 and will end 1:06 pm PDT October 15. What this means is that this is a period conducive to having a number of unanticipated delays, miscommunication, technical difficulties, and self-reflections. It is a period best spent on repairing, revising, redoing, readjusting, anything that causes people to take stock and revisit outstanding issues, relationships, and unfinished business. Depending on which House Libra sits in your Astrological Chart, you may be called upon to look back and determine what needs adjustment in an area of your life.
As an Aries-Taurus Cusp with Gemini Rising, my energy in the first part of September, when the shadow of the retrograde began its way towards us, focused on Commitments, Work and Love. Any unfinished business I had in these areas of my life came up out of nowhere for me to deal with right away. There were no warnings! Since we are still in Mercury Retrograde period for the next 3-4 weeks, I am aware that any communication issues that will come my way will bring me gifts of discovery if I look into it objectively or they will give me opportunities to learn more about myself in regards to patience, empathy, order and boundaries.
What I find interesting now is the ongoing political debate during Mercury Retrograde. Any new promises or positions taken during this period could potentially have a 180-degree turn as our analytical thinking and reasoning skills do get affected when Mercury is not in its strongest position. It would not be surprising that as a result, people’s emotions will get the best of them and may cause them to do or say things they will later regret. This is the hallmark of Mercury Retrograde if we do not pay attention to the energy around us.
Mercury Retrograde period is a wonderful time to reconsider what the political candidates are saying about their position and the promises they are making without our usual emotions getting in the way of reason. This is a time to revisit our economic state, the present Administration’s achievements and consequences of their actions the past 4 to 8 years. This is the time to rethink the proposed plans of our government and military leaders regarding our global standing and affairs in foreign lands as well as our own domestic dilemmas. This is the time to keep our emotions in check and allow for our critical thinking skills to be more active in our decision making.
Mercury Retrograde came in a very good time, just before the US Presidential Elections. The energy of this period does not support new beginnings, new contracts, new collaboration efforts, new programs, new promises. The energy is best used for reflection, revisions, re-organization, reconsideration, rethinking. Actually, it is best for just about anything that has to do with taking care of unfinished business and re-visiting the past to make corrections and necessary adjustments. It calls on us to detach from the drama and disengage from the rhetoric. Instead, it propels us to consider what we truly desire in our lives, keeping in mind the future of our children and our natural resources, and how can our desires be best supported by our country’s leadership the next 4 years and beyond. Based on our vision of the future we desire for ourselves and the world at large, this is where we decide critically which political candidates will best serve the manifestation of our vision.

I have not been to a Laughter Yoga Club before, and when I had the chance to tune in to a Virtual Laughter Yoga Club hosted by the Laughing Lady on BlogTalkRadio, I just had to check it out and experience it for myself.
It only took a few minutes to figure out the whole agenda was to get everyone laughing on the phone for call-ins, in the live chat room, or right at your computer and/or phone listening to the online talk radio show. I made friends instantly as I am getting to be known as HolisticLifeDesigns, aka holistic, HLD and Gina Alzate.
After I took off my analytic cap, I just went with the flow and began laughing with everyone else, for no apparent reason but just to laugh. Did you know that laughing out loud and listening to others laugh is contagious? What makes this different from tuning in to a comedy show or watching a sitcom is that one does not need to have a story, a show, or a one-liner to get everyone assessing whether it warranted a laugh.
Last night all we did was laugh. We made those sounds we thought were funny and we started laughing. Actually everyone started joining in the fun of laughter just by listening to the many funny ways people laugh.
Laughter was truly what the Universe sent me as my holistic medicine to make light of things. I wanted an energy shift and I got it. One hour of creating endorphines in my body gave me a very restful sleep and a joyful morning. What a deal!
So, on Mondays at 10 PM Eastern time, I invite you to join Laughing Lady and her friends at the Virtual Laughter Yoga Club and receive a wonderful dose of Holistic Medicine, Laughter. You’ll be giving yourself a truly joyful gift!

Have you ever found yourself in a seemingly harmless discussion with a fellow stranger about the weather only to turn the flow of conversation into religion and spirituality? I encountered this incidence tonight with a woman calling herself Christian and claiming that the Bible is the Final Authority on God. As I heard her speak my immediate reaction was to move away from the conversation, from the woman herself, as I sensed a trap for debate and scrutiny of someone’s beliefs was being laid out before me. In the context of her speech, I gathered she had checked out my website at www.holisticlifedesigns.com and judged me not Christian due to my connection to angels and spirit guides. She was a fellow BlogTalkRadio Host.
I told her I’m Catholic, thus a Christian and we work with angels and saints, and she bantered back as she did not think Catholics as being Christians. Already, I knew inside me this was not going to go anywhere and it would be pointless to continue, so I decided to retreat…No, I wanted to run away from her as fast as I could. I sensed she was looking for an audience to spill her so-called spirituality and righteousness on to others, especially those she judged as unbelievers like me.
I made it a point to stop her tracks and told her we did not have anything in common we could talk about and it was best that we leave it at that. Not done with trying to convert me into her line of thinking, she proceeded to give me a mini-lecture on her belief structure regarding the Bible. I stopped her on her tracks one more time, reiterating my position as we did not have any common ground to discuss her fundamental beliefs as she obviously had no regard with mine. This time, I kept moving leaving her behind befuddled as to why I did not want to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. I’m not sure what made her come up with that conclusion as all she had done was assume, but I did not care to ask.
As I reflected upon this event, I wondered what was the meaning of that interaction? Then, I remembered an Inner knowing I received earlier before I met her which was not to back down. At first, I didn’t know what that notion meant until I faced the drama. As soon as I realized what was happening, I detached from the drama she created and I kept moving. I figured as long as she had an audience, she would have engaged in ego-centered power play that she had all the answers regarding God. She insisted that God is separate from us, and my belief system centered around God as living in us. But without an audience, she can only argue with herself and her own self-righteousness.
Then I wondered what makes people like her execute the need to display a false sense of superiority on others? The antidote for such unwanted attempts to dominate was to ignore and detach from the drama, and not take any of it personally. I found early on that by taking attacks personally, I allowed others the power to judge me thus making myself take the role of the victim. This submission would definitely not honor my God who lives in me.
